The Kelter Center is a private clinic and non-public agency that specializes in Educational Therapy. Since 1977, The Kelter Center has helped hundreds of children and adults become self-directed learners through the teaching of academic concepts and learning strategies that are required to meet the challenges of elementary, junior and senior high, college and professional work environments. Our ServicesIn the last 30 years, researchers have discovered a great deal about how the brain works and how that knowledge can be translated into educational programs. The Kelter Center specializes in the practical implementation of that research. We do not merely teach reading, writing, spelling or mathematics. We teach the underlying processes and strategies that make learning conscious and thoughtful. We teach our students "how to learn". Individual work - our services include diagnostic educational testing and educational therapy in the areas of reading, writing and mathematics. In addition, The Kelter Center is a CogMed and PACE provider - programs that teach "learning to learn" skills. Educational testing answers the following questions:What does your child know, confuse and not know in reading, spelling, fluency, vocabulary, writing, and/or mathematics? How efficiently are they learning? How efficient are their attention, memory, and problem solving skills? Is your child aware of his or her learning profile? Community Services - The Kelter Center sponsors seminars and our staff speaks to parent groups and at school sites on such topics as - Special Education, literacy skills, learning abilities, and attention concerns. School Partnerships - The Kelter Center works with schools to provide for the needs of diverse learners in the classroom by developing school wide professional development seminars and workshops, assessing individual students and providing on-site educational therapy services. School liaisons - We strongly believe that in order to support our students, we must communicate openly and frequently with all those involved with their learning: family, schools, therapists and other professionals. Our StaffThe Kelter Center staff is a professional team that works together to ensure the quality of services for which we are widely known. Our teachers are credentialed and have degrees in psychology, reading, mathematics or special education. They are thoroughly trained in all of the research-based methodologies used at The Kelter Center. Further, we require that our teachers are supervised and observed on a weekly basis to ensure that our students are receiving the best educational services possible. The Kelter Center staff participates actively in many professional organizations, including The International Dyslexia Association, The Learning Disabilities Association, The California Association of Private Special Education Schools, The California Association of Resource Specialists and Special Education Teachers, The National Center for Learning Disabilities, The International Reading Association, The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, The California Math Council and The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
